Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia met Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Friday to discuss the Supreme Court verdict that established the supremacy of the elected government over LG. It was the first meeting between the chief minister and the lieutenant governor after the apex court order on power tussle between the Delhi government and the Centre. According to reports, LG has promised to cooperate with Kejriwal and his team.

After the meeting, both parties pledged to work according to the Constitution.

The LG tweeted, " Met Hon'ble CM @ArvindKejriwal & Hon'ble Dy. CM @msisodia . Assured them of my continued support & cooperation in the interest of good governance & overall development of Delhi as per the letter and spirit of Constitution."

This was quote tweeted by Arvind Kejriwal saying, " Thank you sir. All of us should work together for the development of Delhi. Constitution is supreme. Orders of SC become the law of the land. They must be respected."

Later addressing a press conference, Kejirwal said, " The LG has agreed that files of Delhi Govt need not be sent to him, only the decisions will be made known to him. This will help clear a number of files which had been pending." Giving a veiled warning to Centre, Delhi CM said, " If government doesn’t follow orders of the Supreme Court there will be anarchy in the country".

While both pledged to follow the constitution, problems and tension continue to simmer between the babus and Kejriwal government. On Thursday, Kejriwal warned officers of "serious consequences" if they did not comply with the city government's directive on transfers and postings.

The Delhi government also explored legal options, including filing contempt petition, against those who refused to comply with the directive, an official said. Hours after the Supreme Court's landmark judgement on Wednesday, the government introduced a new system for transfer and postings of bureaucrats, making the chief minister the approving authority. However, the services department refused to comply, saying the apex court did not abolish the May 21, 2015, notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to which services matter lies with the lieutenant governor.

Emboldened by the SC verdict, Kejriwal has pushed several of his pet schemes like home delivery of ration, CCTV installation etc which had earlier run into roadblocks from LG's office. AAP government has had a rocky relationship with Delhi LGs of the limits of power each enjoys regarding governance of the capital.
