The communal violence that erupted in western Uttar Pradesh on Republic Day continues unabated with sporadic incidents of arson being reported from the district.

In view of the communally charged atmosphere, RP Singh, the Kasganj DM, has shut down all internet services in the area.

‘All internet services suspended from 5 pm on January 27 to 10 pm on January 28,’Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, taking action against the troublemakers, the local police have filed three FIRs against 30 men.

The FIRs are in addition to arrest made by the authorities on Saturday. As many as 53 people were arrested by the cops yesterday.

In fresh case of violence, three vehicles were set ablaze in two separate incidents on the outskirts of the town. Talking about the incidents that took place in Nadrai and Chungi, Aligarh Division Commissioner SC Sharma said, ‘we are patrolling the area and trying to avoid such incidents. This incident took place in outskirts so we don't have much information about it.’

Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar also maintains that situation is under control. However, the opposition feels that the Yogi Adityanath government has failed to maintain law and order in the district. ‘This, happening on Republic Day is unfortunate. People of Kasganj respect each other. We want action against culprits but no injustice should be done,’ former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday.

Additional companies from Etah, Aligarh and Hathras are being sent to Kasganj. 1 company of the Rapid Action Force and five companies of the PAC are being deployed in the violence-hit area.

The violence flared up on Friday, when activists of the ABVP and other Hindu organisations took ‘Tiranga Yatra’ on two-wheelers. When Yatra reached communally-sensitive Bellari Gate, slogan-shouting turned into communal clashes with members of both communities indulging in heavy brick-batting, acid throwing and resorted to indiscriminate firing.

ABVP leader Chandan Gupta and another person identified as Prince had sustained bullet injuries. While Gupta died, Prince has been shifted to Aligarh in the critical condition. Half a dozen others had sustained injuries in the riots. Curfew has been clamped in Kasganj after sealing the borders with other districts.
