Congress leader and son of former union minister P Chidambaram, Karti Chidambaram, on Tuesday refuted the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee's (TNCC) charge that he had made remarks against the party and its high command, and said that whatever he had said was totally in sync with Congress principles.

He was reacting to the showcause notice sent by TNCC President E V K S Elangovan asking him to explain why he should not be expelled from the party. "I have stated earlier that the lunch I had organized on January 22 was in my private capacity, no symbol of party was used, and even media was not invited. What I had spoken in the meeting, was completely in sync with Congress principles, I didn't speak anything against leadership," Karthi said.

The TNCC had issued a show-cause notice to Karti on Friday, asking why he should not be expelled for his anti-party remarks at a meeting with his supporters in Chennai where, he had reportedly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "political acumen".
