The Khammam Lok Sabha constituency comprises of seven assembly segments namely Khammam, Palair, Madhira, Wyra, Sathupalle, Kothagudem, Aswaraopeta. Of these, Madhira and Sathupalle are reserved for Scheduled Castes while Wyra is reserved for Scheduled Tribes candidates.

It’s one of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies going to vote in Telangana and will see BJP’s Vasudev Rao take on TDP’s Nageswara Rao Nama and Congress heavyweight and former union minister Renuka Choudhary. Nageswara Rao Nama had quit TDP to join the TRS recently.
While Nageswara Rao is one of the richest politicians in the country with declared assets of Rs 113 crore, Renuka Chowdhary was in Rajya Sabha but is girding herself for an electoral battle in Telangana.
In 2014, YSR Cong’s Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy won the seat by 11,974 votes beating TDP’s Nama Nageswara Rao. CPI’s Kankanala had come third.
In 2009, then TDP’s Nama Nageswara Rao bad beaten Renuka Chowdhary while Praja Rajyam Party’s Jalagam Hemamalini came third.
Telangana, which has 17 Lok Sabha segments, goes to the polls in the first phase on April 11. They are Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Adilabad, Zahirabad, Medak, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Khammam, Bhongir, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Chevella, Secunderabad, Nizamabad, Malkajgiri and Hyderabad.
In 2014, when the state was formed KCR's TRS won 63 of the 119 the Assembly seats in the state. The TRS also won 10 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats, with INC getting 2, BJP getting 1, AIMIM getting 1 and the YSCRCP ending up with one.
