Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the recent rape cases--Unnao, Kathua--where BJP leaders have been accused of being involved in the crime. Kamal Nath termed BJP as Balatkar Janata Party.

"Maine kahin padha tha ki 20 aise neta hain Bharatiya Janata Party ke jo balatkar se jude hue hain. Ab inka naam Bharatiya Janata Party hona chahiye ya Balatkar Janata Party, ye janta ko sochna hai (I had read somewhere that there are 20 BJP leaders who are involved in rape cases. Now, Bharatiya Janata Party should be called Balatkar Janata Party. The people have to make a decision on this )" Kamal Nath said.

Congress leaders have been raising the issues of recent rapes in BJP ruled states and asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take concrete steps to bring about a change in the scenario. On the other hand, BJP has accused Congress party of creating unnecessary obstacles in the working of the government and 'doing politics' on a sensitive issue.

Congress has been making direct charges against BJP leaders for 'protecting criminals'.

"The real culprit of the Unnao victim, who was reportedly raped in June, 2017 and who pleaded at the doorstep of the BJP chief minister, even attempting self-immolation, is no one else but the CM, Ajay Singh Bisht alias Adityanath, and he should immediately be sacked," Congress communications in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a statement on Saturday.

He also referred to excerpts from the court's observation on the Unnao case and alleged that Uttar Pradesh had become "Ravana Rajya" for women, Dalits and farmers during the BJP rule.

"BJP leaders have mastered the art of extending state protection to rapists, shaming the victim and her family, defending the accused and crying conspiracy...And the Adityanath government has perfected this art to the hilt," Surjewala alleged.

Earlier on Sunday, Massive protests and marches were held across the nation to demand justice for the brutal Kathua and Unnai rape cases. People carried banners, placards that read 'Not in my Name', 'Silence is not an option', 'Break the silence on Men's violence', 'No bail only, hang till death to rapists' in the protest march.

Delhi residents flooded parliament street to protest against Kathua, Unnao and the recent Surat rape cases. Hundreds of people on Sunday participated in a protest march called "Not In My Name" at Parliament Street in the national capital. The protesters sought adequate security arrangements for the families of the victims, and state support for arranging a competent prosecution team.
