The Centre today accorded clearances for making use of 7,920 acres of forest land for the construction of Kaleswaram irrigation project in Telangana, the state government said here.

The Ministry of Environment gave the clearance for the land use, a release from the Chief Minister's Office said.

The state government had earlier requested the Centre for forest clearance for the construction of barrages, tunnels, canals as well as all reservoirs, including the Mallanna Sagar, it said.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed happiness over the Centre giving clearances and complimented the state government officials for their efforts, the release added.
