J&K: Six policemen injured in scuffle with army personnel; Omar Abdullah demands action

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and six police personnel were injured on Friday after they were allegedly thrashed by armymen in Ganderbal after policemen deployed on the Amarnath yatra duty stopped them at a check point.

The incident took place when a few army personnel were returning from Amarnath Yatra. They were stopped at the Gund Police Station.

Later an argument took place between the two sides over a checkpoint. The scuffle lead to minor injuries sustained by both army and police personnel.

A case has been registered by the police and senior army and police officials are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah demanded action against the army personnel for allegedly thrashing and injuring seven policemen.

"Why would the army beat up J&K police personnel in a police station? This requires immediate clarification/action by the authorities," Omar wrote on Twitter.
