Differences cropped up in the all-party meeting over the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly with National Conference and Panthers Party favouring the early dissolution of the House.

Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra had convened the all-party meeting to discuss the situation and seek cooperation from the political leaders for bringing peace and ensuring good governance in the state.

"There were differences of opinion over the issue of dissolving the House. Some MLAs had their own logic and they wanted the representatives of people to continue because the Assembly is an institution and people have expectations from them," said GA Mir, President of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee.

Mir also said that parties were apprehensive after rumours of defections across parties were floated in the state. "If all parties have said they are not interested in forming the government then the Governor should see the legal position. As far as we are concerned, we have left the decision (on the future of the Assembly) to the Governor," he said.

Former Chief Minister and Vice President of National Conference Omar Abdullah, State President of Congress GA Mir, BJP's Sat Sharma, Mohammad Dilawar Mir from PDP, Ghulam Nabi Malik of CPIM, Bashir Dar of People's Conference, Ghulam Hassan Mir of J&K Democratic Party Nationalist, Hakim Mohammad Yaseen of Peoples Democratic Front and Harsh Dev Singh of Panthers Party participated in the meeting.

"No political combination has come forward to form the government. All political parties refused to form the government. Under such circumstances, dissolution of the Assembly is the only viable alternative. National Conference supported the dissolution of the House while PDP wanted MLAs to continue. BJP was silent on this issue," Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman of Panthers Party, said.

"The Governor urged the leaders to join hands in bringing the state out of the present morass and motivate the youth to shun the path of violence and concentrate on their education and careers instead," said an official spokesman.

Vohra held wide discussions on issues related to internal security, law and order, development, educational problems, the ensuing Amarnath yatra, besides the political scenario which has emerged after the imposition of Governor's Rule.

"The leaders put forth their view points for improving the law and order situation on the ground and suggested measures in this regard. They unanimously expressed their support to the Governor for restoring lasting peace in the state by taking into confidence all sections of the society," said the spokesman.

The leaders also emphasised the need for the administration to work in a neutral, transparent and an accountable manner. They also sought completion of important pending development projects in the different regions of the state, urgent redressal of the long pending issues of SSA teachers, anganwari workers, contractual lecturers, strengthening of Public Delivery System and other pending issues to build confidence among the various sections of the society.

Meanwhile, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti met Vohra separately and thanked him for his guidance and support "Impressed upon him the need to safeguard Article 370 and Article 35A, for which we had been fighting a case in the Honorable Supreme Court. Requested the Governor to look into the Kathua case so justice is served & also to protect the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities so they aren't harassed in the guise of an anti-encroachment drive (sic)," Mehbooa tweeted on Friday.
