Amid the ongoing chaos in Tamil Nadu over ban on Jallikattu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said all efforts are being made to fulfil the cultural aspirations of Tamil people.

Moving swiftly, the Centre on Friday cleared an ordinance on Jallikattu, paving the way for Tamil Nadu government to promulgate it in an effort to end the protests that have paralysed the state for the last four days.

Taking to micro-blogging site, Modi said, "We are very proud of the rich culture of Tamil Nadu. All efforts are being made to fulfil the cultural aspirations of Tamil people."

"Central Government is fully committed to the progress of Tamil Nadu and will always work to ensure the state scales new avenues of progress," PM Modi added.

DMK MLAs, MPs and party workers, led by its Working President M K Stalin, began a fast demanding permanent removal of the ban on jallikattu.

DMK cadres and party functionaries from various districts are also participating in the fast.

Meanwhile, even after the Centre`s nod on Jallikattu ordinance, the protesters don`t seem to be pacified as they continued to hold protests at Marina Beach in Chennai. The beach is thronged by massive number of protesters.

The agitators have expressed the opinion that they won't leave the place till the time the event of the bull taming sport is held.

The ordinance has been forwarded to the state government, a Home Ministry spokesman said. It has been sent without the need of referring it to the President of India.

Tamil Nadu Cabinet is expected to meet on Saturday morning to clear the ordinance and recommend it to the Governor Vidyasagar Rao for promulgation.

Jallikattu bull-taming sport, an age-old annual event during Pongal is very popular in Tamil Nadu.
