In a major achievement for Rajasthan Police, the Vidhayakpuri police station in Jaipur south zone has been adjudged the ‘best police station in Asia’ in a Altus Global Alliance survey for providing smooth public services and ensuring speedy disposal of cases.

The police station that received an ISO certification on November 11, 2005, has around one lakh people under its jurisdiction. It was selected among police stations in 211 cities of 20 countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia and Uganda. The award will be received by the district police chief at Abuja in Nigeria on March 25 and 26.

State police have more than 50 ISO-certified stations, including Jhotwara, in Jaipur.

“It is a matter of great pride and prestige for Rajasthan Police that one of our stations has clinched this title. Almost every country in Asia is part of the detailed survey,” Jose Mohan, superintendent of police, Jaipur (south), said.

Altus Global Alliance is a US-based agency that conducts annual surveys of all law-enforcement units and grades them on merit. It awards organisations across the globe working for public safety and justice.

The initiative is a unique global event organised by the
organisation to assess the quality of services delivered in participating police departments to identify best practices in use by police to strengthen their accountability to local citizens and to promote human rights, SP Jose Mohan said.

The lock-up cells at Vidhayakpuri police station are under 24-hour CCTV surveillance. A cappuccino machine has been installed at the station. The police barracks are well furnished and there are elaborate and well-maintained filing cabinets with separate colour codes for police files according to their status of investigation. The police station is equipped with a reception, personnel gym lawn, a plasma TV lounge and plush interiors.

Two other Indian police stations, — Chandigarh’s Sector 17 and Vadakkenchery in Kerala — also made to the final list on parameters such as public satisfaction, service delivery and working conditions.
