Seeking to protect birds in the pink city, Rajasthan government on Monday fixed a time for kite-flying in the district and also formed a team to contain sale of China-made strings with immediate effect upto January 31.
District Collector Krishan Kunal fixed timing for kite-flying and directed a ten-member team to ensure that no kites are flown from 6 to 8 AM and 5 to 7 PM due to movement of birds during sunrise and sunset in the pink city and other rural areas, an official spokesman said.
The order will remain in effect till January 31 and if a person found flying kites during the restricted period, a case will be lodged against him under section 188 of CrPC, the order said.
The team would comprise officers of administration, police and forest, and it will move around the city and rural areas where kite flying has begun early this month and is set to continue till January 31, he said.
NGOs would also cooperate with the team for treating injured birds, if any, and other casualties at five 'upchar kendra' (treatment centres) in the state capital which would function from 10 AM to 6 PM, he said.
The collector also directed the team to strictly implement ban on sale of any imported or China-made strings, also known as 'manjha' or 'dor', as they cause injuries to flyers and two-wheeler riders.
Chinese manjha is said to be coated with glass or metal which adds to its sharpness and is used mainly for kite- fighting. So far two persons have been killed in kite-flying accidents and scores others injured in Jaipur.
Jaipur Rail Metro Corporation (JMRC) has also issued strict guideliness to people to avoid flying kites near metro stations as electricity passing through the high-tension lines could cause any accidents, its spokesman said.
