The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the dates for Bihar Assembly Elections 2020. The polling will be conducted in three phases from October 28 to November 7. Counting of votes has been scheduled for November 10.

Interestingly, November 10 is a big day for those who follow cricket in India as the final of the Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to be held on the same day.

The two events, with their own set of followers, will get numerous eyeballs waiting for what is going to happen. While the Bihar elections will be majorly fought between NDA and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), a total of eight teams are competing with each other to lift the IPL 2020 trophy.

One thing that is common between the two events is that extreme care has been taken for their conduct by the respective authorities. With India reporting close to 90,000 new coronavirus cases every day, conducting such events that require huge gatherings were a major challenge. Some predicted that they will be postponed in wake of the pandemic but the authorities decided otherwise.

The IPL is being held in UAE due to the huge number of cases of COVID-19 in India. Additionally, there are no viewers in the stadium. Owing to the health and safety concerns, even the media personnel have been denied access to the stadium to cover the games or team practice sessions. There was no opening ceremony, and due to the social distancing norms, there will be no cheerleaders as well in the UAE.

There will be no interaction with any outside elements during the team’s stay in the UAE.

On the other hand, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday announced a myriad of steps the ECI has taken to ensure safety during the elections.

"As days and months passed & COVID-19 showed no signs of abetting, it was realised that some way would have to be found to balance the democratic rights of the electorate while also making sincere & systematic efforts to protect health & safety of people," he said during a press conference.
