IRCTC launches programme to train auto and taxi drivers

Joining the skill India initiatives, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has launched a programme to train autorickshaw and taxi drivers on soft skill development and efficiency in maintenance and operations of vehicles.

They are also be imparted knowledge about the places of tourist interest in their localities, with the programme eliciting enthusiastic response, IRCTC, a railway PSU, said in a statement.

"In the north zone, we set a target of providing training to 250 auto/taxi drivers and 235 of them have already been given training. Likewise in the South Zone, the target was 200 but we have exceeded it by training 205 drivers," said IRCTC chairman and managing director A K Manocha.

Likewise, the targets for East Zone and South Central Zone are 200 each while training has already been provided to 80 and 123 drivers, respectively.

The target for Delhi is 75, Agra (50), Varanasi (100) and Chandigarh (10), he said.

IRCTC has also trained 1,100 underprivileged youth under Tourism Ministry''s Hunar Se Rozgar Tak programme.
