A joint team of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and district administration conducted a massive anti-encroachment drive amid high security on Saturday, removing as many as 30 permanent structures and 50 temporary structures from Kesarbagh Road. Police had to use mild force and detained five persons who posed resistance during the operation which lasted for the entire day.

“We have removed almost all structures obstructing the proposed width of the road including boundary wall of Nema House and Ahimsa Dwar,” said SDM Sandeep Soni.

The operation started at around 9.30 am in presence of police force of five police stations including women cops. Four Sub Divisional Magistrates including Dr Varadmurti Mishra, Sandeep Soni, Rajnish Kasera and DK Nagendra led the administrative teams while officers including MPS Arora led the IMC team. The team included around 150 employees and five JCBS and a pocklan machine.

Starting from the side of RTO office, the team removed temporary shops in front of the office.
Putting up resistance, the owner of a wine shop claimed to have obtained a stay from the court. However, the officers examined the stay order and found that it was not related to encroachment and eventually two rooms of the shop were demolished.

The team faced stiff resistance from one Nema family as they rushed out and stopped the JCB machine. They demanded the officers to give them sometime to remove the boundary wall and gates by themselves. But the officers claimed that notices were served in advance and public announcement was also made in advance giving them ample time to remove their structures.

An altercation took place between Nema family and SDMs Sandeep Soni and Varadmurti Mishra.  The members of Nema family with their supporters even tried to manhandle the officer forcing the police to take action. Police used baton in retaliation when the Nema family members and supporters screamed at the cops. They were detained and later released by police.

IMC team has to struggle to demolish the boundary wall and gates of Nema House. Pocklan machine was pressed in for the purpose. The team demolished Ahimsa Dwar which was on the road.   The team also removed a nursery owned by Padma Tonde who had shown tough resistance to IMC team on previous occasion by threatening to set herself ablaze.

With removal of obstructions, the 1.5 km road will become 30 meter wide. The construction of concrete cement road from Kesharbagh-Manikbagh ROB was in lurch due to encroachments.

EASING HURDLES FOR ROAD PROJECT
The removal squad removed 30 permanent structures and 50 temporary structures erected on Kesarbagh Road to clear hurdles for the proposed road construction from Kesarbagh Road
to Manikbagh ROB.  Personnel from five police stations including women cops were pressed in for the massive drive.
