India's first underwater restaurant shuts down two days after launch

India's first underwater restaurant in Ahmedabad shut shop just two days after its launch owing to a leakage in the floor to the ceiling aquarium and some trouble with development permissions, according to reports.

Reports state that the concerned authorities have alleged that the restaurant, Real Poseidon, did not have sufficient building permission from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Officials have now asked the restaurant owners to present them with papers that prove that they had taken permission to build the restaurant. 

Deputy municipal commissioner of AMC, Devang Desai in an interview with an English daily said, "The restaurant will be issued a notice, and we will seal it on Thursday because it has not sought the mandatory development permission under the town planning rules. The seal will remain in place until it seeks the necessary approvals needed under town planning rules. We will not allow it to operate otherwise,” he said.

The Ahmedabad Fire And Emergency Services also said that the owner of the restaurant, Bharat Bhatt, had not acquired necessary permissions from the AMC, the fire department and the health department. 

Commenting on the issue, the Chief Fire Officer MF Dastur said that Bhatt did not know about the restaurant and only became aware of it after media reports, he said, "“I am yet to visit the restaurant. We have not given any permission to the restaurant. It needs to have permission from the department of fire in case of emergencies like  flooding  of water and emergency exits."
