India ranks 6th in the list of countries suffering most terrorist attacks

Global Terrorism Index by Institute for Economics & Peace says the number of lives lost to terrorism increased by 80%

Amidst the golbal terrorism chaos, Institute for Economics & Peace has released it's Global Terrorism Index. Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Syria are the worst hit countries by terrorism. In the year 2014, these countries suffered the largest number terrorist attacks.

According to the index, in the year 2014, the number of lives lost to terrorism increased by 80% and these five countries were victims of total 78% of these attacks.

India ranks sixth in the index of countries which faced most terrorist attacks with a score of 7.747.

In 2014 total 32,658 lives were lost to terrorism compared to 18,111 loves lost in 2013. According to the Golbal Terrorism Index, this represents the largest yearly increase deaths ever recoreded.

ISIL and Boko Haram are jointly responsible for 51% of terrorist attacks. Boko Haram though has surpassed ISIL as world's deadliest terrorist group by causing 6644 deaths as compared to ISIL's 6073.

The economic cost of terrorism reached its highest ever level in 2014 at US$52.9 billion, an increase of 61% from the previous year's total of US$32.9 billion, and a tenfold increase since 2000, reports prnweswire.com
