Central security agencies, probing Burdwan explosion case, are fearing a spurt in terror activities in the near future that, of late, had ebbed because of success in neutralising several Indian Mujahideen (IM) modules.

The basis of their apprehension lies in the revelation that at least 8-12 modules, each an independent unit, may have passed out from Simulia madarsa near Burdwan in West Bengal and fanned out to various destinations in UP, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Delhi or J&K.

Investigations into the Burdwan accidental explosion had taken the agencies to the Simulia madarsa that was found to be purportedly engaged in imparting training in terror activities, especially in jihadi indoctrination, military training and bomb making.

The agencies are sceptical of busting these 8-12 modules, each suspected to be consisting of 15-25 trained persons as each module is suspected to be independent and totally disconnected from the other modules.
Sources said, this seemed to have been planned deliberately and intelligently to maintain secrecy of each module and let the other modules remain active if one is caught and busted.

It has emerged from investigations that Shakil Ahmed Gazi alias Shamin, a JMB activist who died in the accidental IED blast in Burdwan, was perhaps, the single point person who had extensive information about most of the modules.

"These modules may have spread across to unknown destinations and staying dormant in safe houses waiting for instructions from their masters from Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen-Bangladesh (JMB) sitting across the border in Bangladesh. Unless they make the first move, it will be very difficult to crack them," sources said.

As all the investigations done so far in Burdwan and Barpeta in Assam are pointing at active participation of Bangladesh based JMB, including routing of money and sending trainers and cadres, India is soon expected to seek close cooperation from Sheikh Hasina's government in tracking the main kingpins involved in the conspiracy which is expected to come thick and fast as Awami League government is also suffering from JMB's onslaught on the home turf.

If tracked and nabbed successfully, the JMB connections, in touch with IM kingpin Abdul Qadir Sultan Armar alias Pujari who is suspected to be working from Wazirstan near Afghanistan-Pakistan border, may be able to reveal something more about these independent modules, said sources.

The agencies are also looking at the missing links of IM to find out the possible area of operation of 8-12 modules comprising in all of about 150-250 trained terrorists.
