Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Madhav on Wednesday said that the decision to end the alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir was taken after much deliberation keeping the national interest in mind.
Speaking at Zee Media's India ka DNA Conclave 2019, the architect of PDP-BJP alliance said it was not the first time that two different ideologies had come together to form a government.
“It is not the first time that parties with two ideologies have come together. Atal Bihari Vajpayee ran a coalition government with many parties," the BJP General Secretary said.
The #BJPPDPAlliance was better than many alliances we have in the country, no leaders were scuffling on a daily basis but alliances by nature are difficult to manage- @rammadhavbjp #IndiaKaDNA pic.twitter.com/XCRDs7LWxb

"We got a big mandate from Jammu, the PDP had a big mandate Kashmir. If we had not formed the government, the mandate would have gone to waste. Political untouchability is not a good thing," Ram Madhav said.
He also criticised those who called the alliance “unholy.”
"I ask people who call it unholy, who was unholy? BJP or PDP? If PDP is unholy why did the Congress form a government with it?" the former RSS pracharak asked.
There was a weakness and uneasy in our understanding with #PDP says @BJP4India’s @rammadhavbjp on the decision to pull out of #JammuKashmir alliance, says the decision was taken in national interest, not in a political backdrop #IndiaKaDNA pic.twitter.com/qu7Q6NxAzA

He indicated that there were differences of opinion between the alliance partners over the strategy to fight terrorism and talks with Pakistan.
"If we want to look at the PDP-BJP alliance, it was smooth and there was no bickering among ministers. But on the larger issues like fight against terrorism and talks with Pakistan, we believe that our partner was going for political posturing," he said.
Alliance are by nature difficult to manage, he said.

He added that the FIR against army personnel over civilian death was one of the issues between the BJP and the PDP.
Madhav added that the unspent Rs 80,000 package also created fissures in the alliance.
"There were some other issues like the spending of Rs 80,000 package of which only one third was spent," he said.
There was also no political activity in the state as panchayat election has also been delayed, he added.
Talking about the unilateral Ramzan ceasefire, Madhav said, "The decision of suspension of operation was taken from a position of strength. It was a goodwill gesture."

"Mehbooba Mufti did suggest to us regarding ceasefire during the period of Ramzan. The Central government thought about and took a decision as a goodwill gesture. But terrorists came into towns and started killing people and there was even danger to freedom of speech as a top journalist Shujaat Bukhari was killed. There was no political activity and separatists did not respond to it either so we thought there was no point in continuing it" he added.
On the issue of Section 370, Madhav said the platform to take the decision on this issue is the Parliament.
"We have a majority in Lok Sabha but we lack a majority in Rajya Sabha. We are not in the situation to take a decision but that does not mean we have given up on it. We did not compromise on the issue in the PDP-BJP alliance as it was not an issue for the state government," he said.
He said that the BJP has left the Jammu and Kashmir government but not the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We will work under the Governor's rule and destroy the last terrorist. We will legally finish overground network," he said.
