Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday said the decision to exit the alliance with the PDP was not taken due to political considerations.

Speaking at Zee Media's India ka DNA Conclave 2019, Shah said, "We could have taken the decision after 6 months after if there were political considerations to break the PDP-BJP alliance."

The BJP president listed two major issues as the reason behind the BJP's decision.

"Two main issues were the imbalance between the development of Jammu and Leh and law and order situation," Shah said.

He said that the Central government has already sent the funds for Kashmiri pandit rehabilitation and other projects but they remain unspent. He, however, added that he does not doubt the intention of Mehbooba Mufti.

Asked why he took the decision to ally with the PDP which is ideologically different than the BJP, Amit Shah said, "There could be no government without the BJP or the PDP. We had only two options - either form a coalition government or go for another election. We took a decision to form government on the basis of a common minimum programme (CMP)."

But no decision is permanent and after 3 years decided that it was time to end the alliance, he said.

People had welcomed the decision then, they have welcomed it now, the BJP chief said.

He said that neither BJP nor the PDP abandoned any issues.

"But we kept these aside for development agenda of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

"We were in an alliance in J&K on the agenda of development and governance based on a common minimum program, neither BJP nor PDP gave up their ideologies," he added.

Section 370, AFSPA and talk with separatists were kept out of CMP, Shah said. "BJP's policy on Kashmir will never change."

On the issue of opposition unity, Shah said, "I am proud that today like it was during Indira Gandhi's time, it is BJP versus all."

He expressed confidence that people of the country would back Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
