India has decided not to have any dialogue with Pakistan in wake of the recent killings of Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Kashmir by Pakistan-supported terrorists and mutilation of a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier. In addition to that, the release of postal stamps by Pakistan, glorifying terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, has been cited as one of the reasons not to resume any talks with Pakistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that the decision to go ahead with the meeting between foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York was cancelled.

Stating that the proposal for talks as a fresh beginning by Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan was an "evil agenda" that stands exposed, external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that any conversation with Pakistan in such an environment would be meaningless.

"The latest brutal killings of our security personnel by Pakistan-based entities and the recent release of a series of twenty postage stamps by Pakistan, glorifying a terrorist and terrorism, confirm that Pakistan will not mend its ways," he said.

While India had accepted the proposal for the meeting, it was also clear that this would not lead to a resumption of dialogue till Pakistan stopped cross-border terrorism.

The MEA said that the decision to agree to Pakistan's proposal for a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in New York later this month was in response to the spirit reflected in the letters from the new prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan.

New Delhi had earlier expressed anger over the savage killing of BSF soldier Narendra Singh in Jammu's Samba sector, whose bullet-ridden body was found in a mutilated state, with his throat slit.

Previously, India had snapped a high-level dialogue with Pakistan after an attack by Pakistan-based terrorists on the Pathankot Air Force base in 2016.

Diplomatic ties between the two nations have slumped as terror strikes in Kashmir continue. New Delhi has always maintained that talks cannot take place till Pakistan stops sponsoring terror, targeted towards India.

The Indian Army had also carried out surgical strikes destroying terror launchpads across the Line of Control in 2016.
