Both India and Pakistan are bracing for the verdict on Kulbhushan Jhadav's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) next week on July 17.

Both countries are sending their teams for the verdict, which will be announced at 6.30 pm IST next week.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "We will have to wait till July 17. It is not proper to speculate. A team is going to represent the Government of India."

The final oral hearing on the case happened from February 18 to 21 at the world court when India and Pakistan presented their arguments.

The spokesperson of Pakistani Foreign Ministry Faisal Mohammed said, "We cannot prejudge the verdict. However, we are prepared for the case comprehensively. The best lawyer was appointed and all institutions under the leadership of Attorney General fought the case, all documents are on ICJ's website."

Adding, "Since the matter is subjudice, therefore, we cannot comment on it. However, we expect positive results since our case was well prepared."

The ICJ announced, in a statement on July 4, that it will deliver on July 17 its judgment in the Jadhav case.

"A public sitting will take place at 3 pm (local time) at the Peace Palace in The Hague, during which Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, President of the Court, will read the Court's decision," it said.

India has been demanding consular access to Jadhav since March 25, 2016 when the High Commission of India in Islamabad was first informed of him being in custody of Pakistan authorities.

Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India approached the ICJ in May 2017 against Pakistan for denying consular access to Jadhav. India had also challenged the "farcical" trial by the military court of Pakistan against the 48-year-old. The ICJ had on May 18, 2017 restrained Pakistan from executing Jadhav till the adjudication of the case.
