In Bihar, judge attacked in court premises

Unidentified men opened fire at a judge inside court premises in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at a lower court in Naugachia when the judge, Santosh Kumar, an additional chief judicial magistrate, was out for a morning walk. "Around four armed men arrived in a Scorpio and started following the judge.

The moment he turned around, they shot at him. He retaliated by firing shots at the men from his licensed revolver," a source said.

The judge's family was also accompanying him, but no one got injured. "Kumar was able to apprehend one of his attackers, but he fled when the judge tried nabbing the others. The identity of the men remains to be established," he said.

The advocates of the lower court boycotted work to protest the incident.

"So much is happening. Incidents of loot and rape are on the rise, but no one talks of the maha jungleraj now," said an RJD leader.
