Important posts in Mumbai police lying vacant

Several important posts in the Mumbai police are lying vacant for the last few months. Even 15 days after the election code of conducted was lifted, the post are yet to be filled.
Sources said the posts will be filled in the next few days.

The Mumbai police are grappling with shortage of manpower as the promotions and transfer of the senior officials have been delayed for over three months.

Important position of additional commissioner of police (East region), which was vacated by Qaiser Khalid, has been lying vacant ever since Khalid was transferred to the Mumbai traffic police in February this year.

Additional commissioner of police (local arms) Vijay Chavan is currently holding an additional charge of the east region.

Another important post that is lying vacant is additional commissioner of police (crime). This post has been vacant ever since Niket Kaushik was promoted as inspector general (IG) of police and posted to the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in February. Currently, Deputy Commissioner of Police (STF) KMM Prassana is holding additional charge.

The post of assistant commissioner of police (Mulund region) was vacated on April 30 after ACP Vasant Tazne retired from the force. Currently, the ACP operations Ramesh Shivdas is holding additional charge of the Mulund region. The post of deputy commissioner of police (detection-suburbs) has been lying vacant ever since DCP Ambadas Pote retired from service in April.

"It becomes difficult for the officer holding additional charge to take care of two posts, as s/he is not been able to do justice to both the responsibility given to him/her," said a police officer, adding that "however, everything will be sorted out as the promotions and postings are expected to be announced in coming few days."
