IAS officer DK Ravi's death- Centre is ready for CBI probe: Rajnath Singh

Bharatiya Janata Party MPs from Karnataka on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into IAS officer DK Ravi's death case. They made this demand in Parliament.  "When the family members of DK Ravi are demanding CBI probe then the Karnataka Chief Minister should refer it to the CBI," former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa told ANI.

Union Home minister Rajnath Singh has said that the central government willing to allow Central Bureau on Investigation (CBI) to probe into Ravi's death if the Siddaramaiah government wants. He saidin the assembly, "I have spoken with the Karnataka chief minister and he has said he will send a detailed report within a couple of days. If the state government wants (CBI probe), then as soon as I get a representation from them, we will be ready for a CBI inquiry".

Union Law and Justice Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Thursday questioned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not accepting the demands of the people for a CBI probe into IAS officer DK Ravi's death case. "The parents of the deceased are demanding a CBI probe. 99 percent of the people in the state too are saying so. As the state's Chief Minister, is it not his responsibility to consider the demands of such a huge percentage of people," he said.

Politicians from the Janata Dal (Secular), the BJP along with BJP MLAs commenced a protest march from the Karnataka assembly to the Governor house to demand a CBI probe into the officers death. "Some senior IAS officers had directly requested the PM and the President to interfere", HD Kumaraswamy​ from JDS said to ANI.

"Ravi's case should be given to the CBI enquiry because many cases have happened in Karnataka. Whatever is happening in Karnataka is very bad. Yesterday, the enquiry officer of CID., the senior officer, is transferred. Why was he being transferred? That is why we are asking," said another protesting MLA. 

According to news channel reports, CM Siddaramaiah will meet the cabinet to decide over the CBI probe into the officer's death.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protesters marched against the state government over the death of IAS officer DK Ravi in Tumakuru. 

The protesters clashed with the police and were lathi charged. 

Earlier on Wednesday, lawyers had also staged a protest demanding that the Karnataka government to handover the probe into the officer's death case to the CBI.

The Karnataka government has, however, so far rejected the demand and asserted that the CID of the state police is capable of handling the investigation in the case.

The 2009 batch IAS officer, who was deputed as the Joint Commissioner of the state's Commercial Taxes Department, was found mysteriously hanging by a fan in the bedroom of his private apartment in South Bengaluru's Tavarekere earlier on Monday.
