Sunday marked six years since the gruesome gangrape of a 23-year-old girl in New Delhi, and the girl's mother Asha Devi expressed her disappointment over the law and order situation in the country, that the accused have still not been hanged.

Wearing black bands and holding placards that read: "Nirbhaya ke doshiyon ko faasi kab," protesters gathered at the Constitution Club of India on Sunday to offer condolences to the victim.

Several foreign nationals, as well as poets, artistes, even the joint commissioner of police, were present at the occasion. Asha Devi said she will continue fighting till the accused in the case are all hanged to death.

"It's been six years since the incident and they are still alive. I will continue my fight till these criminals are hanged," she said.

She also pledged to fight for the safety of girls everywhere, and to seek justice for other rape victims. "We haven't received justice. Nothing has changed in our life in six years," she said.

Speaking about the 'Nirbhaya Fund', she said money from the fund will be utilised in installing CCTV cameras in buses, and a one-stop centre will be created. However, she added that no progress has been made on this yet.

Every morning, she said, she waked up hoping things would change in the country. "Daughters are still becoming victims of heinous crimes. The only way to stop this is by implementing a strong law. For this, society and governments should join hands," she said.

Joint commissioner of police, Madhup Tiwari, who was present at the event, recited a poem. "We give our best to arrest the accused involved in such heinous crimes," he said.

A play titled Dastak on the topic of crimes against women and children was also held. More than 20 artists performed.
