A mother in Hyderabad has been arrested for allegedly killing her two minor daughters on Wednesday by slitting their throats.

The accused has been identified as Rajini Chutke, who confessed to committing the crime and later surrendered.

Rajani, a housewife, broke a glass bottle and slit throats of her two daughters, Ashvitha (8) and Tavishka (3), last on Wednesday night at her residence in Teacher's Colony here, Tukaramgate Police Station Inspector T Laxmi Narayana, said.

The incident came to light when her husband Vinay returned home and found his wife missing, while the bodies of the daughters were under the bed and in the bathroom, covered in blood.

"Rajini, an MBA, messaged her friends that she had killed her daughters to "liberate" them from abuse and harassment," NDTV reported, quoting police.

"She went to the Tank Bund area to cleanse herself after killing the girls and returned home and surrendered,'' the report said, quoting police officer Prakash Reddy. She also attempted suicide, reports said.

Rajini reportedly suspected that her daughters were being abused by her husband.

After preliminary investigation and questioning of the accused's husband, the officer said there is no evidence as of now to prove the allegations levelled against him.

A case was booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC and further probe is on.
