Police in Hyderabad have started to impose time restrictions on carts that sell dosas during the night.

A report in Deccan Chronicle states that dosa carts will now have to shut by midnight and can reopen only at 4 am. This restriction is said to have been issued under the City Police Act to maintain law and order in the city.

South Zone additional DCP K. Babu Rao told the daily that they found that most youths involved in crimes were gathering near these dosa carts. “In the fist fight case which claimed a life last year, all the nine youths apprehended said they used to gather near dosa carts before fist fights,” he was quoted as saying. According to Babu Rao, the youths rush to violent spots when they come to know about minor incidents and end up causing a bigger issue.

Cops in Hyderabad had conducted numerous raids across the city under ‘Operation Roaming Youth,’ ‘Mission Chabutra,’ and ‘Cordon & Search’. Post these, they decided to impose restrictions on dosa carts as well as wine bars and restaurants.

However, since hospitals also make use of dosa carts and food carts, only those in their vicinity will be allowed to function.
