Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Hugplomacy" as the US Congress passed a bill delinking Haqqani network from the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Tweeting out a link to a related media report, Rahul Gandhi wrote, "Narendrabhai, baat nahin bani (It didn't work out). Terror mastermind is free. President Trump just delinked Pak military funding from LeT. Hugplomacy fail. More hugs urgently needed."
According to the report, the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) 2018, which was approved by a voice vote by the House of Representatives and the US Senate on November 16 provides about $700 billion for US defence needs in 2018. The NDAA 2018 also provides USD 700 million for reimbursing Pakistan for monitoring the Pak-Afghan border, but withholds half of the amount.
Rahul Gandhi's tweet came in the wake of release of LeT founder and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Seed from house arrest on Thursday.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted sharply to Congress VP’s remarks saying “You are a known sympathiser of LeT.”
“Rahul baba, your habit has not changed. For once, stand with the country & not with Terrorists as is your habit. You are a known sympathiser of LeT. WikiLeaks & Ishtar Jahan case cover-up exposed your links. BTW, have you congratulated your "Hafeez Saheb's" on his release yet?” BJP spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao said in response to Gandhi’s tweet.
The Congress leader has recently taken to social media to often tweet one-liners to attack PM Modi.
He had also taken a swipe at PM Modi last month over Donald Trump’s remarks about improving ties with Pakistan, saying that the US president “needs another hug”.
"Modi ji quick; looks like President Trump needs another hug," Gandhi had said in response to Trump's tweet saying that Pakistan took “tremendous advantage” of the US over the years, but the two countries are now “starting to have a real” relationship.
