With Akal Takht refraining the newly elected Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) from functioning, Jagdish Singh Jhinda, President of HSGMC today said the committee's executive body will decide about future course of action at a meeting at Kaithal in Haryana on July 29.
"We do not want to comment on the edict given by the Akal Takht. Our (HSGMC) executive body meeting will be held day after tomorrow at Kaithal to decide about the future course of action," Jhinda said today. In a fresh diktat, the Akal Takht today restrained the newly elected office bearers of HSGMC from functioning.
Defending the formation of HSGMC, Jhinda said it was similar to the Delhi SGMC which independently manages affairs of Sikhs in the national capital. "HSGMC has been formed much like Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee came into being," he said. Jhinda also said the office bearers of HSGMC will go to Golden Temple in Amritsar tomorrow to pay obeisance.
Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalvi, who spearheaded the movement for the formation of separate SGPC for Haryana, were yesterday elected President and Senior Vice President respectively of the newly notified HSGPC. Besides Jhinda and Nalvi, Harpal Singh Palli, Jagir Singh Yamunanagar, Bhupinder Singh Assandh and Harpal Singh Palli were also elected as Vice President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary, respectively. Six members of the Executive Committee were also elected.
Yesterday, Akal Takht Jathedar Gyani Gurbachan Singh had said that Sikh leaders from Haryana and Akali leaders from Punjab would be asked to come at Akal Takht to find out solution. The Akal Takht, the supreme temporal body of Sikhs, had also directed all Sikh organisations and Sikh political outfits to cancel congregations over the issue. After the directive, all political and religious conventions were cancelled. A Sikh congregation was proposed at Amritsar today while another was called at Karnal tomorrow.
Haryana Assembly had on July 11 passed the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Bill 2014, which the former Governor Jagannath Pahadia had assented on July 14 despite opposition from SGPC leaders from Punjab.
