The Madras High Court has ordered issue of notice to the Director General of Police and authorities on a petition from a woman seeking a CBI probe into the death of her husband who was allegedly murdered by a gang of land encroachers led by a local councillor.

Justice B Rajendran before whom the writ petition filed by Nirmala came up ordered issue of notices to authorities including the DGP yesterday.

Nirmala of Injambbakkam of Neelargarai Police limits said her husband had been legally fighting to remove illegal encroachers in the area by filing petitions.

The petitioner alleged that irked over this, a gang led by local corporation councillor Annamalai attacked her husband several times. Despite several complaints made by her husband to local police no action was taken, she alleged.

She further alleged her husband was attacked by a 13-member gang on February 16 last year and he died at home on March 1.

She prayed to the court to direct police to grant protection to her and the CBI to investigate her husband's death, besides seeking a direction to the government to pay compensation.
