Heavy rains to continue in Gangetic West Bengal till Wed: Met

The Met department today said heavy rains will continue to lash all districts of Gangetic West Bengal till Wednesday morning.

"A well-marked low pressure is prevailing over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, apart from a monsoon trough from North-East Bay of Bengal to Rajasthan," regional Met director G K Das said.

"As an effect of these two systems, heavy rainfall will continue in all districts of Gangetic West Bengal," Das said.

"There will not be much change in the weather, however, the intensity of rain may decrease from tomorrow afternoon," he said.

The weather is likely to get better from Wednesday morning, the regional Met director said.

The metropolis recorded 73.9 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 AM today, resulting in inundation of low-lying areas in some parts of the city.

With incessant rains lashing the city through the night, school-going children as also office-goers were inconvenienced.

Buses and taxis were fewer in number on the roads of the metropolis, while at some places traffic snarls occurred owing to inundation of thoroughfares.

Bankura (110 mm) recorded the highest rainfall in the state during the same period, while Burdwan (43.9 mm), Diamond Harbour (42.2 mm) and Asansol (20.1 mm) also recorded significant precipitation, the Met department said.
