Two university students, residents of Jammu and Kashmir, were allegedly beaten up by some people in Haryana's Mahendragarh, following which three accused have been arrested, the police said on Saturday.
Aftab Ahmad and Amjad, students of the Central University of Haryana claimed that they were thrashed by a group of unidentified people yesterday "for no reason".
The police, however, claimed that a verbal duel took place between the complainants and two locals, after their motorcycles were involved in a minor accident.
The locals then called more people who then allegedly beat them up, the police said,
But Ahmad said, "Yesterday we went to a market in Mahendragarh. After offering prayers, when we started our bike, 15 to 20 people came and started beating us for no reason."
A police official said, "We have identified six people and three of them have been arrested."

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar took to Twitter to inform Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti about the action taken by the state government.
Khattar wrote: @MehboobaMufti ji, Guilty will be punished. Incident had started with a minor collision of motorcycle of the accused. 3 people have already been arrested and senior officer (SP) is on the spot.

Mehbooba Mufti had on Friday urged Manohar Lal Khattar to ensure strict action in this case. "Shocked and disturbed to hear reports of Kashmiri students being assaulted in Mahendragarh, Haryana. I urge the authorities to investigate and take strict action," Mufti tweeted tagging the Haryana chief minister. Ex-CM Omar Abdullah tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet. He claimed the incident goes against the spirit of Modi's outreach for Kashmiris during the Independence Day speech.
Earlier also students from Kashmir have been attacked in Haryana. In September 2016, three Kashmiri students of MBA college in Jhajjar were beaten up over a minor argument. In April 2017, a Kashmiri student at Ganpati Institute of Technology and Management (GITM) was attacked by assailants.
