A mosque located in a nondescript Haryana village hit national headlines on Monday after a report claimed that it was built with help of funds sent by Hafiz Saeed’s Lashkar-e-Taiba.
According to an Indian Express report, the Khulafa-e-Rashideen masjid situated in Palwal’s Uttawar village was built by Rs 70 lakh sent by Lashkar. The Imam of the mosque, who has been arrested by NIA recently, got the money via a contact in Dubai. Imam Mohammed Salman and two of his associates were arrested by the NIA on October 3, the report said.
The report said that Salman earlier attempted to launch a taxi and a dairy business, but incurred heavy losses. It was around this time that he visited Saudi Arabia and later went to Dubai, where he got in touch with some Pakistani nationals. These men, according NIA, were linked to Lashkar. They later started sending money to Salman via Hawala racket.
These men, who were part of the FIF’s Hawala racket, sent as much as Rs 70 lakh to Salman for building the mosque in Haryana. They also helped in wedding of Salman’s daughter.
The 52-year-old is son of late Maulvi Dawood, who was a well-known in the Muslim community in Mewat region. Till his death, Maulvi Dawood was an Imam of a noted mosque in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.
However, the report also added that the locals don’t believe in NIA’s claims. They says that some people have been squatting over mosque land and these people have given wrong information to the police so that the Imam can’t evict them.

Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF), an arm of JuD, has been providing financial assistance to poor families for marriage of girls and building houses, said sources. "They are building cadre eventually to recruit vulnerable youth," said a senior officer in the agency.
