After denying Hapur mob lynching case over rumours of cow slaughter, the Uttar Pradesh Police have apologised on a photograph of one of the victim being dragged by locals in the presence of the cops. Three policemen, who were shown in the photograph, have been suspended and inquiry ordered.

In a statement issued by the DGP Office, it was clarified that the incident happened due to non-availability of ambulance and insensitivity of policemen present on the spot.

Qasim (45) and Shamiuddin (65) were thrashed by a mob on rumours of their involvement into cow slaughtering. The incident hogged headlines when a video showing both lying in a pool of blood and men from the mob shouting at them for facing the punishment for attempting cow slaughter.

The policemen, who rushed to the spot after the incident, asked locals to rush them to nearby hospital. Since no vehicle was available, locals were seen dragging victim in the presence of the cops in a photograph that went viral.

Ironically, the SP City Hapur Sankalp Sharma had denied it to be a case of mob lynching over rumours of cow slaughter saying that they beaten by a crowd after their bike collided with another.

But the video that went viral belied SP’s claims and the photograph which was published on Thursday made the matter worse forcing the DGP to offer an apology.

“Admittedly, the police should have been more sensitive in their conduct. We have taken the matter seriously and taken the three cops from off duty with immediate effect and ordered a probe,” said the statement.
