An interesting event that took place at Bhavnagar airport on Sunday reveals that some leaders are bigger than the party itself, stalwarts which even BJP’s star campaigner Narendra Modi, who is traveling across the state, cannot afford to ignore. So was the case of strong party leaders like Koli leader and BJP candidate from Bhavnagar Rural Parshottam Solanki, who received Modi at the Bhavnagar airport and both the leaders had a closed door meeting at the airport itself.

After addressing public rallies at Rajpipla, Jambusar, Bharuch, Dholka, Gondal on Sunday, Modi reached Bhavnagar for campaigning. Here he was to attend a meeting at the AV School ground at 7 pm. After having the closed door meeting with Solanki, bot leaders departed their own ways — while Modi made it to the public rally, Solanki went straight to his own constituency directly from the airport.

If sources close to Solanki are to be believed, Bhai had gone to the airport only to welcome the chief minister and not for any political meeting. However, there is also a buzz that the talk between the leaders was related to election campaign in the constituencies dominated by the Koli community voters.

“Parshottam Solanki is contesting from Bhavnagar rural assembly seat, and is facing tough fight from leader of opposition in Gujarat state assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil. While Modi wants Solanki to address public meetings at certain Koli community strongholds, Solanki couldn’t come out from his own constituency. Modi also advised Bhavnagar BJP top brass to support Solanki and release him for other seats.”

Congress bashing top agenda

Modi’s relentless Congress-led UPA government bashing went on unabated in his public rallies at all the places. Addressing a public rally at Rajpipla Modi said, “When we are looking for a groom for our daughter, we thoroughly check the roots of boy’s family. Similarly I appeal to the people of Gujarat to check the roots of BJP and Congress while casting their votes. Congress has uttered all the bad words in the dictionary for me and I hope people of Gujarat will give them befitting reply in this election.

Advani wants poll debates akin to US

BJP’s veteran leader LK Advani welcomed the innovative technology used by the chief minister Narendra Modi and said, debates like in the US should start in the election and Congress can put any of their candidates before Narendra Modi. Similar debates should be conducted in Delhi also. Advani was addressing public meeting at Kalol on Sunday evening. Hailing Modi for the development, the veteran leader said, Gujarat is the role model of the other states in the country.

Munde joins Sushma in Modi as PM chorus

Maharashtra BJP’s stalwart Gopinath Munde also termed Modi among the potential prime ministerial candidate. Munde had visited Vadodara to address public meeting. Talking to the media about future prime minister of the BJP, Munde said, “There are many leaders with qualities to become prime minister and Modi is one among them.”
