Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his campaign in Gujarat as he visits the state for two days. On Sunday, the prime minister addressed a rally in Bharuch, where he hailed his party's victory in Uttar Pradesh's civic polls.

"We saw what happened to the Congress in the local elections. They were wiped out. Uttar Pradesh knows the Congress well, as does Gujarat," the PM said.

Maintaining that the BJP wave would decimate the Congress in the upcoming Gujarat elections, PM Modi lashed out at the Congress' caste-based policies that have divided the nation for several years. "Congress is known for making people of different castes, communities fight among themselves," the PM said.

He also said that the main problem with the Congress was that they opposed for the sake of opposing. "They oppose things like bullet train only because they could not take this initiative forward and are envious someone else is," PM Modi said.

He also spoke of how Congress leaders from the state fled to Bengaluru when there were floods in Gujarat. "They were trying to save a leader from losing the Rajya Sabha polls. That leader has done nothing for Bharuch or for the state," the prime minister added.

PM Modi also played down the Congress' claims that Muslim areas had not developed under the BJP rule. "Bharuch and Kutch are districts with significant Muslim populations. And, if you see the districts which developed rapidly under the BJP tenure in Gujarat, the names of these two districts figure prominently," he said, adding that the law and order situation was poor in these districts when the Congress was in power. "At the time, violence was common. The BJP has changed this all over Gujarat," he said.
