A graceful defeat of Congress in Gujarat assembly polls, where former CM Ashok Gehlot played a pivotal role in the party’s campaign spearheaded by Congress party president Rahul Gandhi, has boosted morale of his supporters in Rajasthan and they are celebrating his ‘performance’ in their unique way. Just two days after the poll results, an audio of a song composed in regional dialect has been circulating on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook. It begins with the singer asking ‘What is your name’ and second singer says his name is former CM Ashok Gehlot, recognising him Jannayak, ‘leader of masses’.
Crediting him for creating a thunder in Gujarat polls and shaking politics in Rajasthan, the song further says as a politician he will create clatter in entire country soon. He has been referred to ‘heart beat of the youths’ in the song as well.
As assembly polls are nearing, his supporters on social media have become active, projecting two times of CM Gehlot as a mass leader. Although who has composed the song is yet to be ascertained, it wants to create an air of his popularity, even before by-polls in Mandalgarh assembly, and Alwar and Ajmer parliamentary constituencies.
Gehlot, with the Gujarat assembly polls, has emerged as a stalwart and an impressive poll manager handcrafting campaigning and giving a tough fight to the BJP in its fortress, where it has ruled nearly 22 years. His skills in strengthening party in Gujarat are expected to reap benefits in his home state Rajasthan and he could be seen in a new role of chief aide of Gandhi as well.
His increasing clout in the party has silent the rumour mills which had started spinning his departure from state politics and admission in Central leadership when he was sent to Gujarat. A group within the party even started claiming that he has been given tough task to fight in Modi’s Gujarat where defeat of Congress will signal his farewell from active politics. Now, the scenario has been changed completely and his zealous supporters are cashing in on it.
