'Growing intolerance': Congress President Sonia Gandhi to meet President Mukherjee today

Congress president Sonia Gandhi will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday evening to highlight the 'growing intolerance' in the country.

According to reports, the Congress president is also expected to lead a party delegation to the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday.

The move comes on the back of writers, scientists, filmmakers and others returning their awards to protest against the Dadri lynching case, attacks on intellectuals and the "growing intolerance".

The Congress president had earlier described the recent events as the "diabolical design" of divisive forces to spread hatred, which posed a threat to the country"s unity. The Congress may also use the recent issues to corner the government during the Winter Session of Parliament.

The meeting assumes significance as President Mukherjee has used various platforms in the last two weeks to call for preserving the multiplicity and pluralistic character of the country. The President had in his messages earlier urged the nation to remain united against divisive forces and reminded that "multiplicity is our collective strength which must be preserved at all costs."
