Greater Noida buildings collapse: Massive rescue op on, NDRF deploys 200 men, uses radars to locate people under debris
A massive rescue operation is underway in Greater Noida’s Shah Beri village after an under-construction building collapsed on the adjacent structure on Tuesday last night.
The National Disaster Response Force has deployed around 200 men for the search operations.
In over 10-hour-long operation, at least three bodies have been recovered so far. Dog squad helped in locating the bodies. The NDRF teams are now suing radars and life detectors to look out for anyone trapped under the debris.
The police has arrested the builder and his two associates after the disaster. Taking a serious note on the twin building collapse, the district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry under ADM Kumar Vineet. He will submit the report with 15 days
"The buildings collapsed like a match box. The rescue efforts are taking time since we cannot use heavy machinery to clear the rubble for fear of harming the trapped victims," a spokesman of the National Disaster Response Force was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Reacting to the tragedy, Noida lawmaker and Union Minister Rajnath Singh’s son Pankaj Singh said, ‘It's unfortunate. Illegal construction should be stopped and strict action should be taken against those responsible. Officers who overlooked everything should be held responsible & strict action should be taken against them too.’
‘Had approached local administration but no action was taken. We met MLA Tejpal Nagar who wrote to them to take action but nothing was done. Had also met DM and SSP but to no avail. All construction here is illegal, neither builder nor government or authority looks after it,’ S Dubey, a local resident was quoted as saying.
