Grants sanctioned to DK district for monsoon-related exigency

The Karnataka government has released Rs 30 lakh grant to each of the five taluks in Dakshina Kannada(DK) district to help authorities meet any monsoon-related exigency, Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesh said today.

Rs 20 lakh will be used for urgent works to compensate people affected by natural calamities and their rehabilitation in taluks, Jagadeesh said in a release here.

The administration would send a separate proposal to the government to allocate an additional Rs 2 crore to provide relief to people affected by possible natural calamities, he said.

The administration had chalked out strategies in view of impending South West monsoon and coordination committees had been set up at taluk level headed by respective tahsildars to take stock of any monsoon-related requirements, he added.

The taluk administrations had also been directed to identify places prone to inundation, flooding and take steps in advance to meet the same.

Swimmers, boats and crew would be arranged to meet calamities in the coastal region.

A round-the-clock control room would function at the DK Deputy Commissioner's office during monsoon, he said, adding control rooms would also be set up at the taluk levels.
