The Narendra Modi government has planned a three-day event to mark the second anniversary of surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the celebrations at India Gate.

Representative videos of surgical strike cleared at the highest level showcasing valour, exhibitions with pictures and music shows will be part of celebrations on September 28, 29 and 30. Top military officials have held meetings over the last few days to lay bare the final plan for the mega event, sources said.

An operation carried out by the Special Forces of Indian Army on September 28-29, 2016 wherein they destroyed terror launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) inflicting maximum damage to terrorists and Pakistani forces backing them was referred to as a "surgical strike" by the government.

However, there was no celebration planned to mark the first anniversary last year, and this year's event comes months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

The present government has been vocal about its military and the cross-LoC raid in 2016, termed surgical strike, is up on the list.

"The event hasn't been given any special name and will be held for marking the second anniversary of surgical strike. The general theme is showcasing valour of Indian forces," said an official in the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Sources said there was a coordination and security meeting on Tuesday to put in place the final plan for the three-day event.

Singers Mohit Chauhan and Kailash Kher are expected to perform during the three day spectacle that will take place at the India Gate lawns in the national Capital.

The exhibition where different services will put up stalls will have rare pictures of military heroes, videos of forces and weaponry captured from the enemy and also used by Indian troops.

Selfie and video walls to capture the moments of military history will also be put in place for visitors.
