The Public Accounts Committee is yet to receive sanction from the government to consider CAG report alleging irregularities regarding the Purti group linked to Union minister Nitin Gadkari.
It is yet to be decided whether the CAG report will be considered by the PAC or the committee on public undertakings (CPU), said chairperson of the PAC, K V Thomas.
According to parliamentary sources the government may take the decision to give the matter to the Committee on Public Undertakings as it is related to Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), a public sector undertaking.
The PAC is headed by veteran Congress MP from Kerala K V Thomas known for being tough and doing meticulous work while BJP leader, Shanta Kumar heads the Committee on Public Undertakings.
The committee has taken evidence from representatives of ministry of petroleum and natural gas on hydrocarbon production sharing contracts, ministry of external affairs on global estate management, ministry of health on procurement of allopathic drugs in CGHS, ministry of defence on role and functioning of coast guard and Archaeological Survey of India on protection of monuments.
Thomas, who was re-appointed as chairperson of PAC early this month said, We are in the final stages of preparing the report that will done in the final meeting on these issues.
Of these, PAC’s report on hydrocarbons that deals CAG’s allegations of irregularities in allotment and functioning of KG Basin gas wells is keenly awaited.
Dissatisfied with government’s indifferent approach towards its reports, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to convene a conference of PACs of all states on September 8 to find ways for better implantation of its recommendations.
Only in few cases the government has taken action. We will consider how to improve upon implementation of our recommendations and action taken report of the government, said a PAC member.
The PAC conference is taking place after 15 years gap may include chairpersons of PACs of legislatures of all Commonwealth countries.
“Subject to the approval of Speaker, I have also proposed to include chairpersons of PACs of all Commonwealth countries as we all have similar issues,” said Thomas.
