Today's Google doodle is celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of one of India’s most renowned artist, MF Husain.

Maqbool Fida Husain or M.F. Husain was a multi-faceted artist, also known as 'Indian Picasso'.

The doodle paid tribute to Husain with an abstract art design showing the letters G,O,O,E as circles and the artist’s right arm and paint brush completing the word Google.

The painter's work fetched astronomical sums at the Bonham's auctions - the highest for any Indian artist.

His paintings on goddesses Durga and Saraswati invited the wrath of Hindu groups who attacked his house in 1998 and vandalised his art works.

Born in Pandharpur in Maharashtra on September 17, 1915, Husain was living in self-exile since 2006 following a series of legal cases and death threats against him over his paintings.

He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1991. Between 1990 and 2011 Husain went on to become the highest paid painter in India.
