The vicinity of self-styled godman Rampal’s Satlok ashram has turned into a cantonment with more than 50 thousand police personnel taking charge. The whole area has been cordoned off and media has been kept out.

Despite massive violence on Tuesday, police couldn’t lay its hands on the self-styled godman Rampal. However, during the night around ten thousand people have been evacuated from the ashram.

According to policemen, majority of the followers who came here belong to states like Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, MP and Orissa. The staunch followers who are taking a fight with police are allegedly using women and children as shields.

Even now many who were evacuated from the ashram have their loved ones trapped inside.

The administration has kept 100 odd Haryana roadways buses ready for the further evacuation. Police, till now, has been helpless in taking any evasive action as it can hurt the innocent trapped inside. But how does a saint like Rampal who preaches in Haryanvi attract people from other states and that too in such large numbers?

“He has ashram across these states including one in Pune, Maharashtra. He offers the poor of these states free bread and lodging there and once they become habitual of the comfort, he asks them to visit the headquarters. He  also asks them to bring families along with whatever weapons they can come-up with. This time too he collected the weapons given by his followers,” said a senior police official.

Riding on their faith, Rampal forged a private army which is now taking a fight against the state on his behalf. If locals and policemen are to be believed, Rampal who doen’t have much credibility in  prosperous Haryana targets poor people of under developed states and even gives them money to come to the ashram.

In a form given by Rampal administration to one Bhagat Lal Bihari, a first time visitor, we came to know about the modus operandi of Rampal to increase disciples. Rampal and his associates have forged a full-fledged program in which Rampal will give ‘Naam Updesh’ to any individual after four regular visits in four months to the ashram.

After taking the final ‘Updesh’ the disciple has to register his presence atleast four times in a year otherwise, he or she will have to go through the process of taking ‘naam updesh’ again. Police officials are hopeful of getting hold of godman today as the number of people in ashram has got reduced which enables police with an option to use force. Police also claimed that many women were sexually harassed by Rampal associates inside Ashram.
