Four persons, including RJD leaders, died in a road accident on Sunday morning, while they were returning home from former Bihar CM and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav's wedding ceremony in Patna on Saturday night.

The accident took place at around 6.30 am on NH 57 in Araria district. "The four deceased, including three RJD leaders, were travelling in an SUV, which hit the divider, overturned, skidded on the other side of the road and crashed into a truck," said a police source. He added, "Prima facie, it appears that the driver fell asleep, though it is not clear as to who was at the wheel."

The four have been identified as Kishanganj district RJD president Intekhab Alam, Kishanganj district board member Israrul Hasan, Ekramul Haq Bagi, son of former state minister Suleman Bagi, and Mohammad Sahil, all residents of Bahadurganj block in Kishanganj district.

The cop said all four sustained severe head injuries as the roof and body of the SUV was damaged during the accident. "An FIR has been lodged against the truck driver and the truck has also been seized," he added.

RJD Vice President Rabri Devi, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, MLA Tej Pratap, MP Misa Bharti, RJD state president Ram Chandra Purbey and other leaders expressed grief over the deaths. The party flag at its state headquarters was also lowered to half-mast to condole the deaths of party leaders.

Meanwhile, some unruly scenes were also witnessed at the venue of the 'Jai-Mala' ceremony, after the couple Tej Pratap and Aishwarya Rai, exchanged the garlands.

Some of the guests, believed to be RJD supporters, broke the VIP enclosure when they "heard" that "tastier" meals were being served there, and looted the food items and other embellishments. They manhandled media persons, broke the crockery, including hundreds of plates, and upturned tables and chairs even as some senior RJD leaders tried to reason out with them and requested them to refrain from such rioting.

The family members of the bride and groom had already left for nuptial ceremonies, which were to be solemnised at the bride's home.

RJD sources said that around 50,000 people from across the state were expected to participate in the event, apart from distinguished politicians from across the country.
