An FIR has been lodged against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pralhad Joshi. Joshi has been booked for inciting communal violence after making a controversial statement in Karnataka's Hubli, news agency ANI reported.

Reports coming in further added that the complaint was filed by one Mohammad Hanif, who has alleged that Joshi said that weapons were kept inside a mosque in Hubli district. At the time, Joshi was visiting the home of a man who had been killed in the area.

Earlier in the day, BJP President Amit Shah asserted that Siddaramaiah and JDS would receive "biggest shock of their lives" from the region in May.

The BJP chief made the statement while addressing party convention in Mysuru. The Election Commission had announced a single-phase election on May 12 for the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Meanwhile, accusing Shah of violating the election code of conduct for allegedly giving Rs five lakh to a deceased party worker's family, Karnataka Congress working president Dinesh Gundu Rao demanded his externment from the state.

Rejecting the claims, BJP has said that Shah did not give any money to Raju's family.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), too, complained to the Chief Electoral Officer, accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of violating the model code of conduct by "bribing openly".

The complaint, signed by BJP General Secretary Ravi Kumar said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was canvassing at Chamundeshwari constituency at Mysore on March 29 and that during election campaigning, in 'utter violation' of the poll conduct, paid Rs 2,000 each to two women who welcomed him.
