A female Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head was arrested by Odisha police on Saturday from Bedabahal village of Sambalpur district.

Sumitra Kanhar alias Sumati (22) was arrested while she was returning to a Maoist camp after leaving her son at her parent's house at Bedabahal village. She carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh over her head, Sambalpur SP Prateek Mohanty said.

Sumitra, an 'Assistant Area Commander' of the Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundergarh Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist), had joined the outfit at the age of 15 in 2007.

She has studied till fifth standard and was involved in several maoist activities in the area.

Her interrogation revealed that she was trained by the ultras at Saranda Jungle in Jharkhand and was active in the district till 2009. At least six cases including killing of sub-inspector of police Narasingha Mahakud, were pending against her, he said.
