Farrukhabad Lok Sabha Election Result 2019 UP: BJP's Mukesh Rajput scores massive victory against BSP's Manoj Agarwal

The constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of the general elections on April 29.

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid contested from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency against BJP's Mukesh Rajput and BSP's Manoj Agarwal. Shivpal Yadav's new political outfit, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), has fielded Uday Pal Singh from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency.

The constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of the general elections on April 29.

Constituency profile

Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Salman Khurshid, who was the incumbent Minister of External Affairs, lost badly here in 2014 and could only poll 95,000 votes out of total 9.7 lakh votes. Rajput had defeated Samajwadi Party's Rameshwar Singh Yadav in 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.  BSP's Jaiveer Singh had secured the third position.

While Salman Khurshid's wife Louise Khurshid had lost with a slender margin of 3,000 votes in 2004 elections, he was successful in winning the seat in 2009. Sakshi Maharaj, currently the sitting MP from Unnao, had won from here in 1996 and 1998 elections. After that, Chandra Bhushan Singh alias Munnoo Babu of the Samajwadi Party represented the seat in Lok Sabha for two terms. 

Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency comprises six Assembly segments: Aliganj (Etah district), Kaimganj, Amritpur, Farrukhabad and Bhojpur (Farrukhabad district).

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: State Profile

In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in the state, securing 42.63 per cent of the votes. BJP ally Apna Dal bagged two more. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats with a vote share of 22.35 per cent. The BSP did not win any seat but secured 19.77 per cent votes. The Congress registered wins on two UP seats in 2014, bagging 7.53 per cent of the votes. 

UP is facing a triangular battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
