The Congress on Thursday held protests at Aam Aadmi Party CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence over fake degree scandal. demanding MLA Jitendra Tomar's resignation. University in Bihar on Monday submitted an affidavit in the Delhi high court stating Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar's degree certificate are fabricated. Tomar on Tuesday came out strongly and rejected all the charges. The Congress protesters have been detained.

Accusing the BJP of hatching a conspiracy against AAP, the minister said that he won't be resigning as he willing to prove his innocence in front of the court. Both BJP and Congress party had asked for the resignation of the law minister and demanded to book him under charges of fraud and corruption. "My degree is 100 percent genuine, I have all the documents to prove it and I will not resign from the post. When the court will summon all the records and registers everything will be clear," said Tomar. The petition filed in the court is politically motivated as BJP has not been able to digest its defeat, he added.

The AAP government also extended support to the minister saying Tomar will file his response in the court on August 20, the date set for the next hearing. "The law minister is willing to cooperate and will provide the documents when asked. The matter is sub-judicial and next date of hearing is on August 20. I think we should wait till then," said government spokesperson Nagendra Sharma.

The Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar on Monday submitted an affidavit in the Delhi High Court stating that Tomar's provisional certificate is "fabricated and does not exist in the institution's record". "It is respectfully submitted that on the basis of the inquiry report, and in the university records, the provisional certificate bearing serial number 3687 was issued on July 29, 1999 to Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary for BA (Honours) Political Science examination held in 1998.

"Accordingly, the provisional certificate in the name of the respondent no 5 (Tomar), is a fabricated document and does not exist in the records of the university," the affidavit stated.

The university was responding to the notice issued to it on a plea alleging that Tomar had got himself enrolled as an advocate on the basis of a "false and bogus" graduation degree. The court had also sought a reply from the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Uttar Pradesh, from where the law minister said he had graduated in science.

Meanwhile the opposition parties have decided not to let go off the incident and came all guns blazing against the government."If Arvind Kejriwal fails to remove the law minister and take moral responsibility than tomorrow, we will hold a massive demonstration outside the Delhi Secretariat," said Congress leader Ajay Maken.

BJP MP, Meenakshi Lekhi also led a scathing attack against the law minister and questioned the AAP's choice of the cabinet. "I want to ask how such a person was given charge of the ministry. Why is he still continuing in his office?" she said.

The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) informed the high court that it had suspended Tomar's licence after Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University (UP), where he claimed to have done his BSc from, admitted that Tomar's graduation degree was fake. The high court has asked BCD to file its inquiry report against Tomar by August 20.
