Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday wrote to the Election Commission of India asking them to not use EVMs for upcoming Municipal Elections.

The general election to three municipal corporations of Delhi will be held in April.

The demand from Delhi Chief Minister came after allegations of tampering were levelled by politicians following results of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

After humiliating defeat in Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of tampering with the EVMs.

She had said the Election Commission should stop the counting and withhold results and hold fresh polls using traditional paper ballots.

However, the Election Commission rejected BSP supremo's claim that electronic voting machines were rigged in the Uttar Pradesh elections and said her demand for a repoll using ballot papers was legally untenable.

It said the judiciary has also endorsed the use of the machines in successive elections.
